Ski Samoens

What’s New for 2012/13?

Our impressive Grand Massif ski region sees changes and improvements happening each year and the 2012/13 season is no exception. With our impressive snow record (take a look here at the Samoens snow history) and a particularly amazing season of powder last year, we are really excited about the arrival of this winter.

So what is new?

Lift Improvements

After the addition last winter of the new super fast 6 seater chair in Flaine (the Désert Blanc), the area sees further speed improvements with the renovation of the of the Aup de Véran lift. This speedy and comfortable 8 seater opens up all sorts of opportunities on the right-hand side of the Flaine bowl and we can’t wait to try out the new lift.

Getting on lifts also becomes even easier in Morillon (magic carpet on the Esserts chair lift) and in Les Carroz (improvements to the Figaro drag lift to increase comfort).

In Samoëns, those new to skiing can enjoy the beginners’ slopes with the help of a conveyor belt to take them smoothly and simply back to the start of the slopes. No more needing to master the drag lifts to enjoy a day on the nursery slopes!

What is new on the pistes?

There are a number of exciting changes to the already fantastic pistes of the Grand Massif.

Pistes in Flaine

There are three new pistes in Flaine to slide down this winter. The red Démon offers a new route from the super fast 6-man Désert Blanc lift to the impressive Faust run. The new Quartz piste is a blue run that offers an easier alternative to Faust for those who like to cruise the blues.

Grenat, another new blue run, is sure to become more than just a link route between the top of the Grands Vans and the Vernant lifts.

Pistes in Samoëns

A new red has been created for this year from the top of the Chariande Express. Paraments will take you along a route that skirts around the precipitous drop back into the Giffre valley. We’re really looking forward to taking this one on this winter.

The pistes in Morillon

The start of the black run, La Lanche, has been brought up to the Molliets lift allowing you to plunge directly into the Morillon valley below.

More snow in the Grand Massif

Despite our incredible snow record, efforts continue to ensure consistent snow is kept topped up. Additional snow making facilities have been put in place in Flaine (in the Aup de Véran area) and on the Desmoiselles run in Samoëns.

Samoens catered chalets – New for the 2012/13 season

After last year’s incredible snow, we are really looking forward to this season with a lot of excitement. If you are after a catered chalet holiday, we can now offer Chalet La Roche and Apartment La Roche on a catered basis. A friendly face from the last couple of seasons, Justin, will welcome those guests at La Roche, and those of you staying in either of the Ourses (Chalet La Grande Ourse or Chalet La Petite Ourse) will be welcomed and looked after by the lovely Kate.

The chalets are getting booked up pretty quickly (see prices & availability here) so if you are looking to join us this winter, book soon to avoid missing out!

Until next time…
