Ski Samoens – winter is coming to the Samoens valley
With snow arriving in the village this week, the Samoëns ski season is definitely well on its way… We took the opportunity to enjoy some early winter fun although there’s still time to relish some more of the alpine autumn before winter arrives fully.
Winter in the morning…
Autumn in the afternoon…
Read on to see some photos of our mountain adventures this week. Believe it or not, all these photos were taken over the last three days!
Winter is coming but the autumn fun continues!
Autumn is possibly our favourite time in the valley.
Yes, the breathtaking colours turn the already beautiful scenery into an incredible technicolour backdrop.
And yes, the departure of most of the summer holidaymakers gives us an even more tranquil valley to enjoy. But one of the biggest reasons we love autumn is the fact that you get all of this with the excitement of winter around the corner.
Two seasons in one day!
Winter showed its face in the valley at the weekend with the village seeing some snow. We’ve had snow on the surrounding mountains a few times already (it bodes well for winter…) but this is the first time the snow line has dropped to the valley. Higher up, we saw a significant dump of white stuff with about 20-30cm. Perfect for some morning sledging or snowman building…
The children visit a snowman the day after he was born!
With the autumn weather then warming up, we took the opportunity to enjoy a family walk. The scenery is always magnificent at the Bout du Monde (literally, the ‘End of the world’) although the autumn colours brought particular splendour. The younger group members enjoyed stomping in the snow and splashing in the now trickling river whilst the adults took the opportunity to catch up and submerge themselves in the natural beauty.
Fun for everybody in Autumn
Despite the summer holidaymakers leaving Samoeëns, there is still plenty of fun to be had for the whole family. We experienced some thrills and inevitable spills on the ice rink in the afternoon.
As you’ve seen from the photos above, some of the “older kids” took the good weather opportunity to enjoy some higher altitude fun with an outing on the via ferrata. We’ve a few photos throughout the website showing off the via ferrata although there’s always room for a couple more!
